What the Merrimac Brings Back

I am looking at Newburyport’s shipbuilding and trade history by highlighting the Merrimack River for this year’s theme: Passage. The pigmented ropes represent what was brought back from those expeditions like textiles, spices, dyes, and natural elements. The main component of my sculpture is rope which was one of the many trades practiced in the 1800’s.
